This morning on the way back from a 3 mile walk, we were walking back into the campground and met a tent camper from Tyler, Texas, and he's on a motorcycle, a Kawasaki, which he seemed embarrassed about when I asked.
He was embarrassed because he wasn't riding a Harley, but then I told him that I'm a Honda-Gold-Wing person, even though my biker days are memories from the past.
He is a very nice, very friendly person, and we mentioned that most of the people in this campground are from Texas.
He then said something that saddened me - he said how people from Colorado hate Texans - and then I disagreed, and said that that's just not true.
Oh, but they're bleeding hearts, you know, Liberals, and then I asked him if he experienced any hate for him being a Texan here, and he had to admit that NO, he did not.
The man is very smart, and we talked to him for a good hour, and we found out that he is an AG teacher for high school and he was so very knowledgeable about wildlife.
Agriculture, right?
He said that he was forced to follow the Texas textbooks, but he disagreed with several things, but then Hay! This is the USA, and Texas rules.
I was so impressed talking to him, and how he apologized if our politics were different than his, and I suddenly acted right-wing, assuring him that we're from Arizona, and us Arizonans are even more right-wing than Texans.
(I'm a scoundrel like that, but I so loved this man and wanted him to talk freely)
Turned out that he's not as crazy as you'd think.
Anyway, here's my photographs from a short hike up into the mountains - and let me just say that one of the reasons we love to travel, is meeting Americans and finding out that we have more in common than the media or politicians lead you to believe -
